(Tennis news) It took Stefanos Tsitsipas three hours and 59 minutes to defeat Italian Jannik Sinner 6-4 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena in the Australian Open. The result meant that the Greek tennis player will play in his third consecutive quarter-final of the Australian Open, facing Jiri Lehecka, who defeated sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime on Sunday. Considered as one of the favourites to win the Australian Open, Tsitsipas came into the match without dropping a single set all tournament and looked to be headed for a victory by keeping that record intact before Sinner broke early in the next two sets.

However, Tsitsipas’ quality was far beyond Sinner’s and the Greek broke in the final set to go 4-2 and held his next two service games to wrap up the win. “I feel like I’ve spent a century on this court. What a great night. That was superb. A ripper, as they say here. I’m really excited to be sharing moments like this out on the court. It’s not easy. I had an unbelievable opponent playing incredible tennis in the third and fourth set. I stayed really calm” said Tsitsipas after the match.

In what can be considered as another upset in the Australian Open, sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime lost to Czech tennis player Jiri Lehecka 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-3) in the round four of the Australian Open. In what has been called the ‘Netflix curse’, players that have participated in the Netflix series Break Point have been eliminated from the Australian Open earlier than expected. Fellow stars Casper Ruud, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz and Thanasi Kokkinakis have all fallen victim to the ‘Netflix curse’ while Nick Kyrgios, Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic were forced to withdraw from the tournament.
