(Cricket News) Disregarding the disappointment of the World Cup and the excitement surrounding the start of the India-Australia T20I series in Visakhapatnam on Thursday night, a few former cricket players continued to live out their childhood fantasies in Ranchi as the final match of the 2023–24 Legends League Cricket took place there.
Additionally, LLC CEO Raman Raheja revealed a significant clue regarding MS Dhoni’s involvement in the league during the tense match between Urbanizers Hyderabad and India Capitals.
Prior to the commencement of the 2023 LLC tournament, which took place in Doha earlier this year in March, Raheja had stated in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times that he would like Dhoni to be a part of the league in the near future. He even mentioned India’s top players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“I would love to have MS Dhoni come and play sometime. Or maybe, who knows, five years later, we have a Kohli vs. Rohit match,” he had stated. “My future plan is to position this as a second innings for players.”
LLC has seen the participation of former Indian cricket players such as Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Robin Uthappa, and Pragyan Ojha, to name a few. However, Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, has not yet been a part of the event.
This is due to the BCCI’s player regulations, which state that since Dhoni is still bound to the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he is not eligible to participate in LLC and must retire from the IPL in order to commit to LLC or any other foreign leagues.
The LLC CEO was seen speaking with the Ranchi superstar on Thursday, and it appears that Raheja is eager to receive an early confirmation from the captain who won the World Cup in 2011.
Raheja later posted pictures of the encounter on X, captioning it, “Good start is half the battle won. We @llct20 came to Ranchi on a mission. Not just won hearts of thousands of fans but met the “Legend” in his town. Just Honoured!! It is time to scale up and move ahead. #LegendsLeagueCricket #msdhoni.”
