(Cricket news) South Africa fought back in style to get a 58-run win over England to level the series 1-1. England won the toss and opted to bowl, but England couldn't keep the South African batsmen down as they raced away to a 200-plus score, recovering well from their disappointing first game yesterday. The three-match series now goes to the series decider on Sunday where the winner takes it all. After conceding 234 in the first T20I, South Africa responded by notching a 200-plus score themselves on the back of an amazing 55-ball 96 from Rilee Rossouw and Reeza Hendricks' 53. Rossouw went on to hit 10 fours and five sixes during his stay in the middle as South Africa finished with a mammoth target of 207.
England's inconsistency in white-ball cricket continued as it headed once again with another implosion. There were periods of a fightback, but they lost wickets consistently as they tried to seek up momentum. South Africa on the other hand juggled their bowlers well as the spinners handled the middle overs while the seamers never allowed the England batsmen to settle. Jonny Bairstow was subsequently the top-scorer with 30, but other than him no other batter gave him company in the middle, eventually Tabraiz Shamsi's slower deliveries forced the batsmen to play a big shot which led to his crucial wicket. The South African bowlers shared the wickets amongst themselves as England bundled them out for 149 in 16.4 overs with Shamsi and Andile Phehlukwayo picking up three wickets, while Lungi Ngidi continued his good form with figures of 2-11 in 2.4 overs to wrap up the game.
Last match in Bristol was Rilee Rossouw's first innings for South Africa since October 2016 was snuffed out after four deliveries in the first T20. In Cardiff he showed the world why he was brought back into the team as the destructive white-ball Kolpak player, hitting an unbeaten 96 off 55. Tristan Stubbs' scored a 28-ball 72 on Wednesday earned him a promotion by one place as Stubbs arrived 27 balls later and couldn't time the ball the same way in his 15 not out, which came off a dozen deliveries. Reeza Hendricks scored 57 off 33 in the first match and made 53 off 32 this time. The only positive for England was Chris Jordan, who kept the damage down to just four runs in the 20th. Jos Buttler also won his first toss for the first time in eight white-ball games as captain
Brief scores: South Africa 207/3 in 20 overs (Reeza Hendricks 53, Rilee Rossouw 96*) beat England 149 in 16.4 overs (Jos Buttler 29, Jonny Bairstow 30; Lungi Ngidi 2-11, Andile Phehlukwayo 3-39, Tabraiz Shamsi 3-27) by 58 runs.
