Getafe goalie David Soria has publicly chastised Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini after their recent La Liga match, which ended in a disappointing loss.
Under the direction of the Chilean coach, the ‘albiverde’ team won 2-1 away, earning valuable points in their quest for European qualifying.
After the game, Soria voiced his displeasure with Pellegrini’s tactics, sparking a heated discussion in Spain. “They have done the opposite of what their coach preaches, claiming to be passionate about football, emphasizing their efficiency, yet every time we face them, it’s as if they aim to undermine us,” he said.
He must be unhappy with his team’s performance today. Soria continued, “We’ve barely played three of the six or eight minutes he added,” highlighting what she saw as Pellegrini’s apparent hypocrisy.
“Pellegrini need to set a good example. We have a bad name because of people like him, but others are unaffected,” he told Movistar Plus.
“Our team was too stretched,” Soria said in response to the loss. The first objective was especially harmful. After that, we mentally collapsed, and it had an impact on us. The penalty was awful; we attempted to equalize at 1-2 but were unable.
Pellegrini heard Soria’s remarks at a later news conference, and instead of avoiding the criticism, the “Engineer” decided to reply.
Pellegrini opened by saying, “We were superior to them,” highlighting the hard-fought game on both sides and even recognizing Getafe’s skill at stopping play. “We played our usual style of football,” he stated.
“Teams in the lead typically waste time in the closing minutes, but they don’t lay down, pretend to commit fouls, or raise a fuss. Although I haven’t heard Soria’s remarks, I don’t think they fairly depict what transpired during the game,” he said.
