Sophie Devine extends contract with Perth Scorchers

Sophie Devine has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Perth Scorchers, meaning she will feature in the WBBL in the orange and black uniform once again.

The prominent all-rounder from New Zealand, who was kept by the Scorchers in the first-ever overseas player draft the previous year, showed her worth by scoring 489 runs and taking 14 wickets to be included in the WBBL Team of the Tournament.

Devine, one of the best all-rounders in the game of cricket, is two wickets short of reaching 100 in this competition. She called it a “no-brainer” and was thrilled to have committed to the Scorchers for two more years. She led the side to the 2021–22 title—and termed it as a unique memory. It was their first title.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be returning to the Scorchers,” Devine said. “I have built such a special connection with the players and staff over the past four seasons, and I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.

“Winning the WBBL|07 title in front of our fans at Optus Stadium will always be a special memory for me, and something the whole group is incredibly motivated to achieve.”

The New Zealander has a pretty decent international record as well, having played in 135 T20Is for her side. Devine has accumulated 3268 runs in her career at an average of close to 30, while also has 117 wickets at an average of 18.74. She also holds a lot of experience when it comes to franchise cricket, having played for a lot of teams all across the world.

Mikayla Hinkley, a transfer from Brisbane Heat, has also strengthened the Scorchers, and  Alana King has signed a three-year contract extension with the team.

Perth Scorchers squad (so far): Chloe Ainsworth, Stella Campbell, Piepa Cleary, Maddy Darke, Sophie Devine (INT), Mikayla Hinkley, Alana King, Lilly Mills, Chloe Piparo
