Simone Inzaghi signs a two year contract extension with Inter

(Football news) Simone Inzaghi has signed a contract extension with Inter Milan which will keep him at the San Siro until 2024, the Serie A club announced on Tuesday. According to Italian reports, the 46-year-old will receive a salary of five million euros. The former Lazio manager enjoyed a decent run in the league but ultimately came 2nd in the league.

Inter have shown faith in Inzaghi despite the former Italian forward failing to retain their Serie A crown, which was subsequently won by local rivals AC Milan after a thrilling title race which went down to the final day of the season. He joined Inter last summer from Lazio when Antonio Conte had announced his sudden departure from the club shortly after winning the Milan giants' first league title since 2010. Inter were about to go into full-blown crisis mode but with Inzaghi the transition was much smoother. In his first weeks into his new job the club sold Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi who were key figures in that Scudetto triumph.

No one expected Inter to retain the title but Inzaghi did so well, folding in cheap replacements for their departing stars who were clearly fan favourites for long stretches of the campaign. He created a new style of play which got the best of the players as well as the whole team. Rather , they went on to win the Italian Cup and Super Cup, against their arch rivals Juventus. He also secured Inter qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2011/12 and narrowly lost in the last 16 to eventual finalists Liverpool. Inter this season  have signed Lukaku back on loan from Chelsea and free agent Paulo Dybala, significantly bolstering an attack which topped the Serie A scoring charts last season and Inzaghi hopes these signings will help win the Scudetto this season.
