Shreyas Iyer to Represent Mumbai in Ranji Trophy

(Cricket News) Star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to play in the Ranji Trophy starting on January 12 at the Bandra-Kurla Complex ground. Iyer, 29, was left out of India’s squad for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan. Iyer had expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy following his lackluster showings in the recently finished two-game Test series against South Africa.

India is scheduled to play England starting on January 25. After drawing the important series against the Proteas, the hosts will hope for a strong performance against England and maintain their position in the WTC standings. He was out for scores of 31 and 6 (Centurion) and 0 and 4* (Cape Town) against South Africa. His outing for Mumbai could prove to be highly beneficial.

As the team prepares to play the England Lions (A team), Iyer will be joining the Mumbai team in place of Sarfaraz Khan, who traveled to Ahmedabad to represent India A with Tushar Deshpande.
