(Cricket news) Australia have been the best Test team in this World Test Championship cycle. They will now play India in the final at the Oval in a few days time. Before this final the last series was the Border Gavaskar trophy in India which the home side won. Australia could be without Josh Hazelwood for the final as the seamer is struggling with an injury. If he doesn’t make it than Scott Bolland is likely to take his place. The team pretty much picks itself apart from one key area which is the opening spot. Usman Khawaja’s form since his return makes him a guarenteed starter but the same cannot be said about David Warner.

All through these years David Warner has been the first choice opener for Australia in Tests. His partners throughout this time have been changing. Joe Burns, Marcus Harris, Will Pucovski and Matt Renshaw have all been tried but none have managed to be consistent. Now Usman Khawaja has made that spot his own, David Warner’s form has dropped. He has scored just 2 centuries since 2019, both at home. On top of that Warner’s record in English conditions is abysmal as he averages just 26. In the last Ashes series Warner was traumatized by Stuart Broad who got him out 7 times in 10 innings.

Australia have gone for the horses for courses method before when they dropped the in-form and consistent Travis Head to play Peter Handscomb in Indian conditions. Travis Head is the other option for Australia but Warner is likely to be given an opportunity in the WTC final. He has had a decent IPL and looks in good touch. It is a pressure game and Warner is an experienced big game player. If he does fail at the Oval then in the Ashes Marcus Harris will most likely get the nod.
