Bangladeshi pacer Shoriful Islam is ruled out from the second Pakistan-Bangladesh test in Rawalpindi after suffering a groin injury. Taskin Ahmad replaced Shoriful in the eleven, as revealed by the Bangladesh skipper after the toss.
“Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam has a groin strain and could not be considered for selection in the second Test against Pakistan which got underway in Rawalpindi today( Saturday). The left-arm pacer had complained of discomfort in the groin area after the first match and subsequent tests confirmed the injury,” BCB said in a statement on Saturday (August 31).
After the first Test last week, Shoriful complained of soreness in the groin area, and further testing verified the injury, according to Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan. The pacer would now face a race against time to be fit for the forthcoming India test series.
“Shoriful underwent an MRI following the first Test and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain. Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases and he has started his rehab,” Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan mentioned in the statement.
Shoriful contributed with 3 wickets and some handy runs, scoring 22 of just 14 deliveries in Bangladesh’s historic victory against Pakistan which came away from home, for the first time in 24 long years. The pacer has had his share of injuries and has been in and out of the side, playing 11 tests and at the same time missing 11 of them as well since his debut in 2021.
Bangladesh’s next task is a visit to India, starting on September 19 with the first Test in Chennai. Until October 12, they play three T20Is and two Test matches.
