(Football news) This season, the home team has suffered once more in LA Liga, managing just 16 points from 19 games to land them in 16th place in the standings. Alaves, on the other hand, have 17 points from their first 19 games and are in 15th place, both teams perilously near to the bottom three. Quique Sanchez Flores was named as Sevilla’s third permanent manager on December 18, replacing Jose Luis Mendilibar and Diego Alonso, who were fired this season.
In his four games in charge, the 58-year-old has achieved two victories and two losses. The most recent victory came last time out when Sevilla defeated Racing Ferrol 2-1 to guarantee their place in the Copa del Rey final 16.
The squad has lost its last two games in Spain’s top division against Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, placing them in 16th place in the standings. Flores did win his first La Liga game in charge, which turned out to be a 3-0 victory over Granada on December 19.
During yet another dismal season, Los Nervionenses have only won three league games in LA Liga this season and are only one point ahead of Cadiz in 18th place.
Sevilla’s 12th place performance in the previous season was their lowest since they were relegated at the end of the 1999–2000 campaign. This season has been extremely challenging, as the team has lost all of its identity from the three previous seasons in which they finished fourth.
