Sevilla sign midfielder Isco on a 2 year deal for free

(Football news) Sevilla have officially confirmed the signing of Isco on a deal till 2024. Manager Julen Lopetegui was always pushing to sign the Spaniard as he has worked with him before with Spain and Real Madrid. When Lopetegui was the manager of Spain, Isco was the key player of his system. That was the scariest version of Isco that the world had seen. If even 80% of that Isco can be revived then Sevilla have an absolute gem in their hands. The problem is that Isco hasn't played regular football in the last 3 years. He has always been in and out of the Real Madrid side and his fitness has always been questioned. Having said that, his ability has never been in doubt.

Isco is a natural number 10 but he can play on either wing and as a box to box midfielder. Lopetegui usually plays in a 4-3-3 at Sevilla, so it will be interesting to see where Isco ends up playing. Sevilla have Ivan Rakitic, Nemanja Gudelj, Thomas Delany and Joan Jordan as midfielder options. As wingers Lopetegui has Erik Lamela, Alejandro Gomez, Lucas Ocampos and Suso at his disposal. Isco is still 30 years of age and still has a few years of football left in him. What his fitness levels are will be interesting to see. The Spaniard isn't the kind of player who puts a shift in defensively or while pressing. He will usually put all his effort in when he has possession of the ball.

Sevilla last season finished 4th on the La Liga table which would've been very disappointing considering the fact that they were comfortably 2nd for a very long time. Sevilla need to have squad depth next season as they will be playing the UEFA Champions League as well. The Spanish club have also signed defenders Alex Telles and Marcao to strengthen their side. Isco is the signing that will grab the attention and rightly so. He isn't the type of player that Sevilla desperately need but he will definitely improve their squad significantly.
