Sevilla and Barcelona score late winners; Real Madrid left frustrated by Cadiz

(Football news) Real Madrid have finally dropped points in the La Liga table and much credit has to be given to the Covid outbreak. Sevilla are now only 6 points behind Los Blancos with a game in hand. Barcelona on the other hand are still outside the top 6 despite their win over Elche.

Barcelona defeated Elche at the Camp Nou to end their 4 match winless streak. The victory was anything but a comfortable one. La Masia players Ferran Jutgla and Gavi gave Barcelona an invaluable two goal lead in the 1st half. Gavi's goal must have reminded Cules of Lionel Messi as the 17 year old picked up the ball near the halfway line and dribbled his way through the Elche goal and scored. Xavi would've been very happy with the first half but then it all went downhill. Elche made two changes at half time and a further 2 near the 60 minute mark to get back in the game. They scored twice in the space of a minute to get back on level terms much to the dismay of Barcelona. The Catalan side won the 85th minute thanks to another La Masia player Nico Gonzalez. The Blaugrana's next game is a very tough one against 2nd place Sevilla.

Atletico Madrid lost 2-1 to Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. Former Barcelona player Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a fantastic strike from 30 yards out. In the 33rd minute, Atletico Madrid equalised as Felipe jumped the highest to head Thomas Lemar's corner into the back of the net. Lucas Ocampos scored the winner in the 88th minute as Atletico Madrid lost their 3rd consecutive league game for the first time under Diego Simeone. The Rojiblancos' next game is away at Granada.

Real Madrid were held to a goalless stalemate at the Santiago Bernabeu by Cadiz. The visitors defended with 10 men behind the ball for the entire 90 minutes. Real Madrid couldn't manage to break through. The Cadiz goalkeeper made quite a few saves but the majority of Madrid's shots were blocked by their tireless defence. Eden Hazard played the full 90 minutes and had a very good 2nd half which is promising but he still failed to provide a goalscoring output. Los Blancos just didn't have any space to work with and they were also missing their first choice right back and 3 of their right wingers which clearly showed in the game. Their next game is at the very hostile San Mames against Athletic Club.
