(Badminton News) Satwik and Chirag orchestrated an impressive comeback, overcoming an 11-18 deficit in the second game. Their tenacity and skill culminated in a thrilling 21-18, 22-20 victory over Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in the men’s doubles semifinals of the Malaysia Open Badminton. This monumental win not only secured their spot in the final but also etched their names in history as the first Indians, across all disciplines, to reach the Malaysia Open final in the Open Era, which spans since 1983.
Their journey to the final was marked by a dominant performance in the quarterfinals on Thursday, where Satwik and Chirag convincingly defeated China’s World No. 32 pairing of He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu with an emphatic scoreline of 21-11, 21-8.
As they enter the final, Satwik and Chirag carry a favorable record against their Korean opponents, having emerged victorious in three out of their four previous encounters. Despite their historical success, each of the four matches against the Koreans has been closely contested. The current World No. 3 pair from Korea is anticipated to pose a formidable challenge for the Indian duo in what promises to be an intense and closely watched final showdown.
