Ronaldo Shines in Qatar, Dedicates Win to Fans

After his two goals helped Al Nassr defeat Al Gharafa 3-1 in the AFC Champions League last night, Cristiano Ronaldo was happy to have put on a show.

With just two more points needed from their final three games, Ronaldo’s brace—the 912th and 913th goals of his incredible career—put the Saudi Arabian team in the running to qualify for the knockout stages.

To the pleasure of 37,000 spectators, or 12% of Qatar’s total population, who had traveled the 30-mile drive from the capital Doha to Al Bayt, the Portuguese scored either side of an Angelo Gabriel goal.

Joselu, a former Real Madrid striker, gave the home team a late comeback, but Ronaldo was the star of the match.

Ronaldo told Al Jazeera, “I still get motivated to make my fans happy, especially kids, because I have a few kids of my own at home.”

The children’s enthusiasm is sincere. I just try to give it my all [for them] because they are huge football fans. I’m thrilled to score and cheer up our many supporters, who range in age from young to old.

Ronaldo, who hasn’t won a trophy since arriving to Saudi Arabia in 2022, acknowledged that he was more concerned with team success than individual honors. Al Nassr has now won three of their previous four games across all competitions.

“Goals are great, of course, but winning is the most important thing,” he continued. The triumph for Al Nassr is what matters most to me.

“Al Gharafa is a strong squad, and our team’s organization was the key to our success. Winning is my first and last goal. Teamwork leads to goals, and I’m constantly focused on winning and scoring. I’m thrilled if the team wins, and I dedicate the triumph to Ronaldo’s supporters as well as the club’s supporters.

“We had opportunities in the first half, but we were unable to score. The team made some changes in the second half, and the goals followed.
