Ronaldo Opens Up on Future Rivalries

Legendary Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo thinks it’s very improbable that he and Lionel Messi would ever have another rivalry in football. Over the last ten years, the two superstars have controlled the game, resulting in one of football’s most intense rivalries.

Since 2008, when the Portuguese won his first Ballon d’Or and the Argentine finished second, Ronaldo and Messi have been competing against each other. Since then, the two have competed for almost every football award, including individual and team honors, goals scored, assists, and several records.

This rivalry peaked from 2009 and 2018, when Messi was at Barcelona and Ronaldo was at Real Madrid. They faced off in La Liga and domestic cup tournaments for nine straight seasons.

The argument about who is the greatest of all time still divides fans and commentators, despite the fact that both players are now in the latter stages of their careers. Ronaldo claims that he has never harbored resentment for Messi, despite their intense rivalry.

“I never had a bad relationship with Messi,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said in a recent interview. Conversely.

When asked whether he and Messi’s rivalry might resurface in football, the Al-Nassr star said, “I hope so, it would be very good for football… but I think it’s unlikely.”

One of the greatest rivalries in football history will be Messi vs. Ronaldo. Ronaldo has 921 official goals and Messi has 850, making them the only two players who have scored more than 800 goals in their careers.

Ronaldo made news in 2015 when he asserted that, despite popular opinion, he was the world’s finest player. “In my mind, I’m always the best,” he said in an interview. I don’t give a damn about what people say or think. I think I’m the greatest, not just this year but every year.”

“It’s opinions,” he continued, “and I respect them. Messi may be superior to me in your eyes, but I think I am superior to him. Thus, it’s easy.”

Both Messi and Ronaldo have won more Ballon d’Or honors than any other player; Messi holds the record with eight, while Ronaldo has won five.
