The renowned Ronaldinho will lead the Brazilian team as captain in the much awaited “Jogo dos Famosos” on April 12 at Mallorca’s Son Moix Stadium, so football fans are in for a treat. In an intriguing battle, Ronaldinho’s squad will go head-to-head against the Spanish team, which will be captained by former star Iván Campo.
Prominent individuals such as Paco Alcalde, CEO of Fibwi; Iván Campo; Jaume Colombàs, marketing director of the Balearic Football Federation; and Marcio Granados, CEO of “Jogo dos Famosos,” graced the event’s Tuesday morning unveiling. Granados disclosed that a number of former professional athletes who won the global championship in 2002 will participate in this thrilling tournament.
Notable former players include Edmilson, who excelled for both Villarreal and Barcelona, Maicon, who was once of Milan, and Heiton, who was the goalie for Porto. Along with Brazilian players Anderson Oliveira, André Santos, Kléberson, Flavio Conceiçao, and Luisao—Ronaldinho’s own brother—the South American team will also include Paraguayan Carlos Gamarra.
On the national level, Iván Campo has confirmed that key members of the Spanish team will be playing, including Joan Capdevila, who has played for Deportivo La Coruña, Atletico de Madrid, and Villarreal, and Marcos Senna, a UEFA European Championship winner and Villareal icon. The local colors will also be represented by Gabriel Amato and Pisculichi, two former Mallorcan celebrities. Granados added to the excitement by announcing that the stars will be arriving in Mallorca at 10 AM on the day of the game to take part in a number of pregame activities. In an effort to create a memorable environment, they hope to surpass the attendance record of 15,000 spectators.
