(Cricket News) Rohit Sharma, marking his 150th appearance in T20 Internationals, faced an unfortunate dismissal as he advanced down the wicket to play Fazalhaq Farooqi, only to miss the ball and have his stumps rattled.
This marked Rohit’s 12th golden duck, placing him in a joint second position for the most such dismissals in the format. He shares this spot with Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien, while another Irish batter, Paul Sterling, leads the tally with 13. Despite not participating in T20Is since the World Cup semifinal defeat to England in November 2022, Sharma has returned to the format with less than six months remaining before the World Cup this summer.
In the previous T20I in Mohali, Rohit faced an early exit after being run out without scoring due to a mix-up in the middle, causing frustration between him and Shubman Gill. The incident involved Sharma playing the ball towards mid-off, which was saved by a diving Zadran. Sharma had already left his crease and reached the non-striker’s end, but Gill failed to leave his end, resulting in Rohit getting run out. An exchange of words ensued between Rohit and Gill before the former walked off with a displeased expression.
Following Rohit’s departure in the recent match, Yashasvi Jaiswal took charge, aggressively taking on the Afghan bowlers and amassing 68 runs off 34 deliveries. Additionally, Shivam Dube continued his impressive form, securing his second consecutive half-century in just 22 deliveries. Virat Kohli, making a comeback in the T20 side, showcased his skills with a classy 29 off 16 deliveries as the hosts sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
