The French tactician’s career has taken a new turn with the appointment of Reynald Pedros as head coach of the Ivory Coast women’s national team.
Clémentine Touré, who held the role for 13 years, is replaced by Pedros, who won the UEFA Women’s Champions League twice with Olympique Lyon nais in 2018 and 2019.
Pedros’ hiring is a reflection of the Ivory Coast Football Federation’s desire to improve the “Elephants” and qualify for the 2026 CAF TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations.
The Ivorian women’s football team last competed in this competition in 2014, finishing in a respectable third place. That performance made a big impression and helped make Ivorian women’s football a major player in Africa.
Furthermore, the squad has only ever competed in the World Cup once, in 2015, and lost in the group stages. Since then, Ivory Coast has had difficulty making it to the international tournament, a task in which Pedros’ experience and knowledge are anticipated to be extremely important. After leading Morocco to the Round of 16 in the just finished FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and finishing second in the CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2022, the French coach brings an amazing resume to the table.
