The Melbourne Renegades will premiere a new two-part TV series called "The Renegades Recruit" tonight, which will be available for free on Kayo and the club's social media platforms.
The initiative, created for our game's unsung heroes, provides one male Victorian community cricketer with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: a two-week, all-expenses-paid pre-season vacation with the Renegades Academy players.
With a first assignment at the NT Strike League, the winner will rub shoulders with Cameron Boyce, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, and Josh Lalor while studying under Renegades Head Coach David Saker.
Any male cricketer in Victoria aged 18 or older who had not previously won a spot on a state contract list or been picked in a senior Premier Cricket squad in the preceding two years was eligible to compete. Community clubs and associations submitted nominations.
The first episode, according to Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten, will keep fans coming back for more.
“We’re really looking forward to releasing ‘Renegades Recruit’ tonight – a fantastic fly-on-the-wall mini-documentary series. I’m sure many of us have had those ‘imagine if I could’ moments and this brings that to life – the chance to join the Renegades Academy squad on a pre-season trip,” Rosengarten said.

“We’ve left no stone unturned either – our WBBL Head Coach Simon Helmot has put the group through their paces, just as we would with our regular players. We’re hopeful that following the success of this series, we’ll be in a position to launch a Renegades Recruit program for all our female players across Victoria to get involved as well.”
Throughout the two-part series, the best of this year's players will be put to the test, culminating in a final three public vote as the series finale.
The winner will be determined by a public vote, and will be guaranteed a spot on the upcoming pre-season tour.
“I’d like to thank everyone at the Renegades and Cricket Victoria who have worked on this project with us. What started as a simple idea has been transformed with the power of work that has gone into the show you’ll see tonight,” Rosengarten added.
Note: The Renegades Recruit winner is part of the Renegades Academy squad's travelling group. The winner is not guaranteed a spot in the BBL.
