This World Cup has seen several records shattered, stretching the boundaries of the game from scorching hundreds to incredible bowling spells. Most Centuries

With his seventh World Cup century against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma became the batsman to score the most centuries in the history of the Cricket World Cup. He eclipsed the 12-year-old record of six hundreds held by Sachin Tendulkar. After smashing a record five hundreds in 2019, Rohit, who made his debut century in the World Cup against Bangladesh in the 2015 quarterfinals, continued to excel. Rohit Sharma comes into the World Cup as the fifth-highest run scorer with 1,289 runs at an average of 64.45 in 22 matches.

Fastest Century

The fastest century record was beaten not once, but twice. Against Sri Lanka, Aiden Markram hit the fastest century in World Cup history with 49 balls. In the 31st over, Markram entered the bat at No. 4 and amassed 106 off 54 balls, including three sixes and fourteen fours. The previous record was held by Kevin O’Brien of Ireland, who against England in the 2011 edition, struck a century off 50 balls. Then, Glenn Maxwell scored a ton off of just 40 balls in a match against the Netherlands.

Most centuries in a single innings

Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, and Quinton de Kock became the first batting trio to score hundreds in an ODI World Cup match against Sri Lanka. Three batsmen making hundreds in an ODI innings have only happened four times, with South Africa having done it three times.

Highest total

When South Africa played Sri Lanka in their first game in Delhi, they broke the record for the highest team total. With Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram scoring hundreds of runs each, the Proteas batting lineup amassed 428 runs while batting first. Australia set the previous record in 2015 when they defeated Afghanistan 417/6 in Perth.

Highest Run Chase

Pakistan achieved the greatest run chase in the history of the ODI World Cup when they defeated Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, needing 345 runs to win. When Sri Lanka batted first, they set a total of 344/9, thanks to centuries from Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis. With 10 balls and six wickets remaining in the run chase, the men in green were able to reach the score thanks to the hundreds of Abdullah Shafique and Mohammed Rizwan.

Most sixes in international cricket

Rohit Sharma overtook Chris Gayle as the batsman with the most sixes in international cricket during his century against Afghanistan. The Indian batsman broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored in successful One-Day International run chases during the match against Australia. In 124 innings, Tendulkar has amassed 5,490 runs.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has amassed 5786 runs with a strike rate of 97.16 and an incredible average of 90.40 in 96 innings of successful run chases. In the process, Kohli has struck 25 half-centuries and 23 hundreds.
