A return to Real Madrid has been ruled out by former club captain Nacho Fernandez, who acknowledged that he would decline an invitation to return to the Bernabeu.
In June, the Spanish champions revealed that their then-captain Nacho was leaving La Liga to sign a two-year contract with Al Qadsiah of the Saudi Pro League. The center-back has made 12 appearances so far in the 2024–25 season, solidifying his place in the Middle Eastern team.
His departure from Madrid followed the team’s double-winning season, in which Los Blancos won the Champions League and La Liga titles.
Notwithstanding the pleasant recollections, Nacho has disregarded the prospect of ever going back to the Spanish city.
“No one from Madrid has called me,” he informed Cope. “But I don’t plan on going back, even if they did. I made a clear decision; it has nothing to do with playing or anything else. I’ve closed my chapter there. Here in Saudi Arabia, I’m content and focused.”
“I thought I would be able to play a lot of games when I made the decision to leave Real Madrid, which was typical in recent years. However, playing 40–50 games would not change my choice.”
“The choice was pretty obvious, and I am really proud when you feel that your time has come and it has ended. I’m glad I took the choice and am content with my life right now; I don’t regret it because I knew what I was doing.”
“Compared to Real Madrid, I make a lot more money here. I wanted a change of scenery, not just money, so I traveled to Saudi Arabia, although there were other places where I might have made the same amount of money as in Madrid.”
