Real Sociedad’s Injury Battle

Real Sociedad will play Las Palmas this Sunday at 14:00.  The physical fatigue of many players and a number of ailments have seriously hindered the Basque team.  Imanol Alguacil has called up players from the reserve team to bolster the squad after Sociedad, who played a demanding Copa del Rey match earlier in the week, arrived at the championship match with six definite absences due to injuries, Mundo Deportivo reports.

Naïef Aguerd, who had to be substituted in the encounter versus Real Madrid because of muscle soreness, is the most recent addition to the injured list.  Along with Becker, Odiósola, Brais Méndez, and Zubeldia, who have been unable to practice with the team during the week, his absence adds to the losses of Pacheco, who was unable to recover in time for the trip to the Canary Islands.

Together with these confirmed absences, there are a number of players who are in serious pain. For example, Zubimendi was hurt during the cup match, and Zubeldia and Aramburu have accumulated a lot of physical weariness and might not be included in the starting lineup to get some much-needed rest.

In light of this circumstance, Imanol has added two players with an attacking profile from the reserve squad: Dani Díaz and Maríezcurrena.  The defense, however, is the main issue.  Only three players are available for the center defense positions: youthful Jon Martín, Aritz Elustondo, and Zubeldia.  In defense, there won’t be much rotation.
