(Football news) Earlier this season Liverpool announced that sporting director Michael Edwards will leave the club after 10 years. His deputy Julian Ward will take up Edwards' role in 2022. Reports suggest that the Englishman was offered multiple renewal proposals by FSG but rejected them in search of a new challenge and what better challenge then Real Madrid. Newcastle United was the first club who were linked with Edwards, an idea which the Englishman was very quick to dismiss.

Real Madrid do not have an official post of Sporting director. President Florentino Perez looks to head that department as he has expertly done for over 2 tenures. The Los Blancos board contains many of their legends like Iker Casillas, Paco Gento, Roberto Carlos and Emilio Butragueño. It will be very difficult for Edwards to reject the advances of the greatest club in the world.

Edwards has a very high reputation of signing players and turning them into superstars which isn't the classic Madrid way but they have adapted to that style in recent times. Los Blancos has started investing in a lot of young talent along with the legendary Galactico policy. Edwards signed the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Allison and Sadio Mane for Liverpool. He is also credited for earning £57.5m from the sale of Jordon Ibe, Rhian Brewster and Dominic Solanke. The sales of players is something which Real Madrid definitely need to work on.

With Edwards being English the language barrier could play its part. If the Liverpool director clashes with Perez then it could be a recipe for disaster. Having said that, if the two can work together then Real Madrid will profit from him for years to come. Los Merengues aren't in crisis as Liverpool were when Edwarda took over but there is always room for improvement with a club like Real Madrid. The immediate problem for Edwards to solve would be to successfully have players ready to take over from the old guards like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema.
