(Football news) Gabriel Jesus has been linked with a move away from Manchester City. Arsenal was the first.club to show interest in the Brazilian but their failure to qualify for the Champions League is proving to be difficult. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the player but a new candidate has emerged. It is none other than European Champions Real Madrid who have been offered a chance to sign Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus, who still has one year left on his contract, will cost approximately £50 million. Reports close to the club suggest that Real Madrid are still contemplating whether they need to sign an attacker or not. Gareth Bale's departure has already been made official while Luka Jovic and Mariano are expected to leave the club. Borja Mayoral will return from his loan spell while they could also promote Castilla player Juanmi Latasa. Jesus is a very good option as he provides a good backup for Benzema and he will also be very comfortable playing on the wing.
From Real Madrid's point of view, Jesus might look surplus to needs. Spending £50 million on a player who may not get a lot of game time may not be in their best interest. Another problem is that Jesus will take up a Non-EU spot. According to La Liga rules one team is allowed to have only three non-European players. Currently Vinicius Jr, Eder Militao and Rodrygo have taken up those three spots. Other South American players like Cassmiro and Fede Valverde have a Spanish passport. In the post covid era, the process of getting a Spanish passport has slowed down. For Jesus to come, one of Militao, Rodrygo and Vinicius will have to get a Spanish passport which is a possibility.
Jesus will have to fight for his place in the side and he could prove to be Karim Benzema's long term replacement. Jesus' biggest advantage is his ability to play anywhere across the front three. He will give Carlo Ancelotti options more than anything. For Jesus the choice is between going somewhere like Arsenal that guarantees him game time or Real Madrid where he will have to wait for his opportunity. Real Madrid have recently been linked to Raheem Sterling and Serge Gnabry as well but they currently remain focused on the signing of Aurélien Tchouaméni.
