(Football news) Reports have emerged in Spain that Real Madrid are watching Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies carefully. Los Blancos currently have very good young left back in Ferland Mendy. The 2nd choice left back is David Alaba but he has himself said that he is more comfortable in the centre. Defensively, Mendy is one of the best in the world but his attacking game has never been upto the mark. It is no surprise that Real Madrid are looking for a left back and Davies who is known for his attacking prowess will be a perfect candidate. The 21-year-olds current contract runs till 2025, therefore it wouldn't be a cheap operation for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have Vinicius Jr on left hand side but Mendy's inability to have an attacking impact does cause a lot of problems, especially against teams who defend deep. In 116 Real Madrid appearances, Mendy only has 5 goals and 6 assists. Davies will be a good young player to challenge Mendy for the left back spot because currently he has little to no competition. Real Madrid have traditionally had attacking left backs like Marcelo and Roberto Carlos and Davies could be the next one. At the age of 21, Davies has great potential to become one of the best in the world.
Davies burst onto the scene back in 2020 when Bayern Munich won the UEFA Champions League. In 2022, Davies contacted Covid and after that he was diagnosed with an inflammatory heart condition called myocarditis which is the only risk in buying him. Since then, the Canadian hasn't been able to play a full injury free season. It will be a difficult transfer to pull off as Davies is a fan favourite in Bavaria and Bayern Munich will not let him go easily. It will be difficult for Davies to say no to Real Madrid even though he is at Bayern Munich.
