(Motorsports news) Poor getaways are hurting the team’s prospects of winning the race, despite the fact that the VCARB 01 is demonstrating some excellent speed in qualifying—two of its cars qualified for Q3 at Imola last weekend.
Due to the difficulty of passing there, both Ricciardo and Tsunoda lost two positions at the start of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which made it tough to make up.
Ricciardo discussed the circumstances, saying, “The starts, they’re hurting us at the moment.”
To be honest, I haven’t figured out the problem yet. I didn’t think I did a bad job at it because I thought the procedure was going well, but we still need to have a look. It is really delicate.
Tsunoda went on, “It is a topic that our team is working hard on. So far, we have been putting a lot of effort into getting the starts in the races. We have made some progress, but we definitely need to take another step forward since, in my opinion, consistency is lacking. Thus, we must search for the future.
According to the Japanese, there were several interrelated issues that combined to make living challenging.
“I assumed it was related to tire preparation, and while we’ve done a lot of effort in that regard, it’s still insufficient. I believe the clutch’s consistency is also a contributing factor.
RB is able to start consistently since they have the same engine. Thus, there is undoubtedly something we are lacking or that has to be improved.
According to team principal Laurent Mekies, the drivers’ ability to consistently hit the window for the ideal departure is too narrow, therefore they need to improve on the repeatability of their starts.
Mekies stated exclusively to Motorsport.com that the start is no longer a single performance component. You have the clutch, the drivers have the protocols, the drivers themselves, the tires, and I’m sure I’ve forgotten a lot of other things.
