RB plans to upgrade Miami, For the purpose of continuing to be “surfing on top” in middle-field combat

In an attempt to maintain its position "surfing on top" of the middle pack battle, the RB Formula 1 team is getting ready for the Miami Grand Prix with an update.

(Motorsports news) The team from Faenza is engaged in a fierce battle with Haas to control the five-squad pursuing pack, which is led by Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Aston Martin, the top teams in Formula One. Because there are so few points available for the lowest five teams due to the current level of competition in the Formula One grid, Haas and RB will need to work extremely hard to take advantage of any possibilities that present themselves.

With seven points this year compared to its opponent’s five, RB is now ahead of Haas in that private war; but, a double DNF in China deprived them the opportunity to extend their lead. Since there isn’t much of a performance gap between teams, every advantage matters, which is why RB has decided to bring some innovations to Miami even if it’s a sprint event.

Team manager Laurent Mekies spoke to Motorsport.com regarding the midfield battle: “We’ll have an update in Miami to help us try to keep surfing on the top of that very edge.” “In this group, nothing is assured. Our rivals will undoubtedly provide updates as well, and the only way to get to that P10 is to win the weekend.”

This season, RB has looked to have the pace advantage over Haas at times, but its opponent has managed to score a respectable amount of points. Mekies claimed he lacked the courage to declare his team the victor of the match since the margins of victory between the two teams were so thin.

“We have never been confident that we have the quickest car of the five ms” stated Mekies. “In Australia, we missed it by a tenth and a half, and in Japan, we made it there by a half-tenth. We were probably about equal in the race, if not a tenth ahead. Thus, we’ve never felt secure. Each and every time is a war.

“But everyone can benefit greatly from this activity. It’s excellent preparation for the team to put in productive weekends, and a great race is necessary from all angles. You will only receive a point if you accomplish it. You will forfeit that point as soon as one of these components—tyre management, strategy, or anything else—falls off the edge.”
