Before their top encounter against Borussia Dortmund this Saturday, RB Leipzig has a pivotal day ahead of them. Prior to the eagerly awaited match, the club will convene its annual general meeting, with important issues on the agenda.
Prior to the 26th matchday match versus Dortmund, the meeting is scheduled to take place at Leipzig’s “The Westin” hotel. The election of a new supervisory board member will be a major topic of discussion. Wolfgang Altmann, who served in that capacity since 2015, passed away tragically in December 2024 at the age of 70 from illness.
This event, which is anticipated to run roughly two and a half hours, is the club’s twelfth annual meeting. The 23 voting members as well as active and honorary non-voting club members will be present. Since 2014, the latter have been able to ask questions, but they are not allowed to cast ballots. The club has reportedly distributed 1,100 invitations, with an estimated 200 to 300 people expected to attend.
Red Bull’s managing director and chairman of the supervisory board, Oliver Mintzlaff, will attend despite missing the previous year’s meeting because of his attendance at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia. Marcel Schäfer, RB’s sporting director, will also be attending this year’s session for the first time to answer questions about the club’s present sporting situation. Johann Plenge, a member of the club’s board, will chair the meeting.
The honorary council has previously recommended a candidate to fill the position for the next three years after a nomination procedure. This candidate is required to be an honorary member, as Altmann was before his death. The German Football League (DFL) established this criterion in 2014, which enabled RB Leipzig to obtain a license while they were promoted to the second Bundesliga. Additionally, the club must host yearly meetings that are open to all members.
Along with the voting, there will be talks about the board’s discharge (which releases them from personal liability) and a proposed constitutional amendment. The financial report for the fiscal year 2023–2024 will also be delivered. The team reportedly commits to follow the DFL’s requirement to commit to sustainable practices in all areas going ahead as part of this modification.
