(Football news) Real Madrid lost 3-2 away against Rayo Vallecano in what was a very disappointing outing. It was a lackluster display by Los Blancos who were completely outplayed. With Toni Kroos suspended and Antonio Rudiger, Karim Benzema injured, Carlo Ancelotti didn't have many options. He started with Valverde in midfield and Asensio on the right wing meaning that Eduardo Camavinga was left on the bench. The atmosphere at the Vallecas stadium was absolutely electric right from the very start. The hosts were on the front from kick off itself as they scored inside 5 minutes via Santi Comesana. Real Madrid were under immense pressure for the first 30 minutes but then got back into the game.
In the 37th minute Marco Asensio was fouled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot after a VAR review. Luka Modric converted the spot kick and 4 minutes later Eder Militao scored a towering header from Marco Asensio's corner. Real Madrid's lead didn't last long as Vallecano scored in the 44th minute via Alvaro Garcia. Rayo won a penalty in the 66th minute which was initially saved by Thibaut Courtois but it had to be retaken as Dani Carvajal entered the box. Oscar Trejo got a 2nd chance and this time scored. Real Madrid failed to register a single shot on target as the game ended at 3-2.
Real Madrid's defence was in absolute shambles throughout the game. Rayo Vallecano won every single 2nd ball and 50-50 challenges. Luka Modric in particular had an abysmal performance which is not something you see very often while Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo also didn't have the best of games. Marco Asensio was the only Real Madrid player who had a decent game while the substitutes also couldn't make an impact. Real Madrid are now 2 points behind 1st placed Barcelona and unless the Blaugrana drop points against Osasuna, they will be top of the table going into the World Cup break.
