(Football news) Denmark full-back Rasmus Kristensen agreed personal terms with Leeds United and now he is set to seal a move to Elland Road. The 24-year-old worked with Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch at RB Salzburg and has since then earned four senior international caps during his time at the club. He played a crucial role during this season on their way to win the Austrian league as he helped Salzburg secure an eighth straight Austrian Bundesliga title, scoring 10 goals and assisting another eight.
Kristensen started his career in his homeland with FC Midtjylland and then went on to join Ajax on a four-and-a-half-year deal back in 2018, but there he found playing time hard to come by at the Johan Cruyff Arena. He then subsequently signed for Salzburg in the summer of 2019 – where he finally got first team football with current Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch and since then his resurgence has seen him collect four senior Denmark caps. Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani promised fans the club would be busy in the transfer market, with Aaronson and Kristensenm, it looks like he’s delivering on the promise he made.
Marcelo Bielsa always used to prefer to use a smaller squad but that risk tacitic nearly led to relegation last season, so this window the main priority is to get some squad depth as Jesse Marsch would require all the possible players, if they don’t want a repeat of last season The early transfer activity to bring young RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson into the club in this early in the window implies that wide scale arrivals are coming. Should Leeds lose Raphinha to Barcelona this summer, then they need to target a new attacking talisman, especially considering how injury-prone striker Patrick Bamford has been over the past few years.
Another key area where Leeds need to strengthen is at full-back, with the signing of Junior Firpo last season has not worked out so far, while right-sided players Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas are recovering from injuries which they sustained last year. Jesse Marsch needs to solidify the backline in an attempt to improve a defence that shipped 79 goals last season, some centre-back arrivals could be vital if Leeds are to improve next season. Leeds are a club with high ambitions and their owner wants to take this club back to its glory days. We can surely expect them to sign a centre back this transfer window.
