(Football news) Raphael Varane has had a difficult time in the Premier League after his move from Real Madrid. After 10 years and a plethora of trophies with the Los Blancos, Varane joined Manchester United in search of a new challenge and it is proving to be a very tough endeavour for Varane indeed.
Varane has played only 9 games so far this season due to the multiple injuries he has had to deal with. The Frenchman reportedly cost Manchester United £34 million and based on his performances so far, he hasn't been worth it. Even in the games he has been fit, the 28 year old has made a few mistakes leading to goals. In United's latest clash against Newcastle, Varane carelessly gave the ball away in the lead up to the Magpies’ goal. He also had a few other nervy moments which he got away with.

First and foremost the center half needs to stay fit and get a run of games under his belt. Varane has never been a ball playing center back but he has always been comfortable enough with it. There were times during the Newcastle game where he didn't want the ball which is very unusual for someone of his calibre.
Varane has won way too much in his career to be called a 'flop'. It is still early days to judge his impact and at the age of 28 he is still in his prime. A lot of Varane's mistakes have also come due to his fellow defenders. At Real Madrid, Varane often had the support of Sergio Ramos. Harry Maguire has had a disastrous season so far which isn't helping Varane's case.
Manchester United's next game is at home against Burnley where they need 3 points to stay in and around the top 6. Ralf Rangnick would've benched Raphael Varane if Victor Lindelof was fit but with Lindelof likely to miss the game after testing positive for COVID-19, the German may be forced to deploy Varane who will be keen to comeback after a disastrous Newcastle trip.
