(Cricket News) Michael Hussey, the batting coach of the Chennai Super Kings has showed a vote of faith on the CSK opener Rachin Ravindra. Rachin started of his IPL career beautifully with some good scores but has not been in good touch in the last few games.

The New Zealander started off pretty well for the Chennai Super Kings. In his first two games for CSK, Rachin scored a total of 83 runs striking at 237.14, but in the five games he has managed just 50 runs, with a highest score of 21. His strike rate has also dipped significantly (108.7 in the last five games) post his second outing.

There is no definite weakness exploited for the New Zealander, but Rachin in his seven outings, has gotten out to leg-spinners thrice. His dip in run scoring has meant that the CSK’s opening partnership has aggregated just 167 runs in 7 games so far. However the batting coach of CSK, Michael Hussey is not much worried about the openers woes lately.

“Rachin, he’s going well. Batting can be very fickle especially at the top of the order. If you can get on a bit of a roll, then you can keep it rolling. Unfortunately, he missed out a couple of times. He’s still in a good space mentally, his game is still in good working order. My message to him has been that he’s just one innings closer to that big score. It’s coming. He’s still in a positive frame of mind, he’s batting well in the nets. So we’re hopeful that there’s a big score very soon, he’ll enjoy that. And it’d be great for the team to get us off to a good start,” stated Hussey.

Rachin was one of the steal of the auction by CSK, given his run in 50-over World Cup last year. He was bought for 1.8 Cr in the auction last year. Devon Conway’s injury allowed him with a direct entry into the CSK’s eleven as an opener. Conway has now been ruled out of the IPL, which means Rachin will get further opportunities to make it big.

“I’m not concerned about Rachin. Working with him, he’s batting well in the nets. He’s taking care of his preparations, he’s in a good mindset. Sometimes you need a little bitof luck to go your way,” he reiterated.

“The change in the batting order came around – Ajinkya was carrying a little niggle. So we wanted to try and use his skills and talent in the powerplay for as long as possible. That’s why he went up to open the batting and Ruturaj went down to No. 3. But he’s [Rahane] pretty much at full strengh now,” said Hussey while also leaving the door open for that combination to continue.

“I’m not sure which way they’ll go, whether we flip them again. But we’ll wait and see how the balance is tomorrow, I don’t know we haven’t made any final decisions on the team moving forward and particularly on the batting order either,” he said.
