Panchkula, Nov 23 (Football News) Punjab FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Rajasthan United, courtesy an injury time equaliser from Gyamar Nikum, which denied their rivals a third consecutive win in the I–League here on Wednesday.
Daniel Lalhimpuia had given Rajasthan United the lead at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium.
Punjab FC started the match with their usual high press strategy and created pressure in the opposition half. They soon got the result.
Lalhimpuia volleyed beautifully from the edge of the box after a clearance from Samuel Lalmuanpuia in the 13th minute, beating Rajasthan goalkeeper Md Rafique Ali Sardar.
The rest of the half saw both teams trying to control the game.
Rajasthan had most of the possession in the second half and played the more attacking football, keeping Punjab defence on their toes.
Krishnananda Singh could have doubled Punjab's lead but his left footed shot came of the post.
Rajasthan kept on pushing and equalised in the injury time. Punjab keeper Kiran Limbu spilled a Joseba Beitia cross that fell kindly for substitute Nikum, who finished expertly to deny Punjab FC all three points.
Punjab FC will play their next match against Aizwal FC on November 28 here.
