Punjab beat Namibia in one-day match; take 1-0 lead in five-match series

(Cricket news) Punjab’s domestic ODI team, without star players like Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh defeated Namibia in a one-day match at Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek. Namibia, who had participated in the recent T20 Men’s World Cup, were dismissed for a paltry 173 after being put into bat first and Punjab chased down the target in just 33 overs.

Stylish right-hander and Mumbai Indian star Naman Dhir shined with both bat and ball, picking 3/14 and scoring an unbeaten 61. Siddharth Kaul too picked up three wickets for just 28 runs. He was well supported by Gurnoor Brar, who ended with figures of 2/37. For Namibia, it was wicket-keeper’s Jean-Pierre Kotze’s knock of 51 which provided some sort of respectability to the score.

Namibia are using the games as practice for their upcoming Cricket World Cup qualifiers, and recently their captain Gerhard Erasmus had called the Indian team to play a few games with them before touring South Africa for T20Is. For Punjab players, the tour presents an opportunity to get some international exposure and play against strong teams.
