Paris Saint-Germain will wear a special jersey with player names in Arabic as they get ready to meet AS Monaco in Doha this Sunday for the Trophée des Champions.
This is the first since Qatar Sports Investments purchased the team in June 2011. PSG will play their first official game in Qatar this Sunday at Stade 974 in Doha. The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) transferred the Trophée des Champions there since China was unable to host the event at the beginning of the season.
The leaders have chosen to deviate from custom this time around with regard to the uniforms that skipper Marquinhos and his teammates will be wearing. In an attempt to win the first trophy of the national season, the capital club will now play their rivals from the Principality with their home jersey displaying player names in Arabic, after previously using Mandarin or Korean for the previous several seasons.
PSG has used its collaboration with Qatari artist Fatma Al Sharshani, which started in March 2023, to achieve this. In order to honor the “identity and cultural heritage” of the host nation for this season’s Trophée des Champions, she created the name prints that will be utilized during the game.
In a press release posted on its official website, the Parisian club said, “This initiative marks a significant moment in the club’s history, celebrating our commitment to our fans and international partners.”
In addition to the outfits that the players will be wearing this Sunday at one of the stadiums constructed for the 2022 World Cup, PSG has been selling jerseys with this distinctive graphic since Friday, both online and in-store in Doha. Achraf Hakimi, Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, Joao Neves, and Vitinha are the five members of the Paris team who are involved in this endeavor.
