(Football news) PSG in a weird turn of events have suspended the World Cup winner Lionel Messi for two weeks for missing training on Monday as he went to Saudi Arabia for an unknown reason. Messi will subsequently not train or as a matter of fact, play with the first team and also will not be paid during these two weeks. According to L’Equipe, Christophe Galtier had told his players that they would have two days off if they beat Lorient but a defeat meant that they were training on Monday.
According to Messi’s source, the 35 year old reportedly asked if he would be allowed to travel to Saudi Arabia in order to acknowledge his sponsorship deal as the Saudi ambassador. Galtier and Luis Campos gave him the green light to go only if they win or draw, but not when they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Lorient. However, following PSG’s humbling which was also their third loss in their past four games, Messi still flew to Saudi without asking for permission from the club hierarchy, meaning he did not attend the training session on Monday.
This new development could be the final nail in the coffin of Messi’s career at PSG. Now this situation has created tensions within the dressing room as some players are reportedly unhappy with the incident. Lionel Messi’s deal at PSG is due to expire at the end of the season and the more days go by, it looks highly unlikely that he will sign a contract extension with the Qatari club. Messi was apparently negotiating a new deal with the club but with recent developments, it’s most likely the 7 time Ballon D’or player will leave Parc De France.
Barcelona looks like they are looking into the possibility of re-signing Messi but LaLiga president Javier Tebas has warned that the league won’t change its financial fair play rules or even uplift Barca’s ban in order to allow him to return to Camp Nou. There is interest from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal and Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. Messi at the age of 35 surely would want to win one more Champions League as he would preferably want to join a European club but given the salary he is on, this might be difficult.
