(Cricket News) Prithvi Shaw, who has been sidelined since August of last year due to a knee ligament injury, may require an additional month to return to competitive cricket, depending on how well he recovers from higher volumes of agility drills and acceleration.
Shaw, 24, will be required to play a few games before being cleared to resume competitive cricket, according to sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Over the course of the next three weeks, a more demanding workload will be placed on Shaw to determine whether his knee can withstand the increased demands.
Shaw is believed to have performed well in his batting and fielding drills while he is receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
His return to action will depend on whether his injured knee has healed enough to withstand the increased volume of acceleration, change of direction, and agility drills.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one realistic destination for Shaw’s return, but the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will determine whether the young opener will be available for the Ranji Trophy knockouts.
Mumbai, who are currently playing in Kerala, is a two-time champion team. Shaw has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I, but his last international match was more than two years ago.
While Shardul Thakur was supposed to be available for the Mumbai Ranji match against Kerala, which began in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, it is understood that the NCA did not give clearance due to knee difficulties. As a result, Thakur was forced to skip the match.
