Legendary FC Barcelona player Gérard Piqué has once again garnered attention for his observations on the state of the coveted UEFA Champions League.
Piqué’s heart surely beats for his previous team, Barcelona, where he won three Champions League trophies during his storied career. Alongside football greats Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, and Sergio Busquets, the 2010 World Cup winner was a member of a golden generation that won European titles in 2009, 2011, and 2015.
It is not surprising that Barcelona holds a special place in Piqué’s heart when he considers the current status of European football. He did, however, pick Paris Saint-Germain, an unlikely favorite. The former defender said he was impressed by the team’s recent play, especially following their thrilling win over Liverpool.
“PSG is doing incredible things,” Piqué said. “The fact that Paris defeated Liverpool came as a major surprise. They gave a very outstanding performance that demonstrated their full potential this season.
Piqué was especially complimentary of his countryman and former coach, Luis Enrique, in his critique. From 2014 to 2017, the two had three fruitful years together at Barcelona, and Piqué said Enrique’s impact on the club is clear.
“Luis Enrique is performing admirably. Piqué said, “He has a clear vision and knows exactly what he wants to achieve.” “On the field, you can observe how the players are carrying out his intentions. The club’s ownership’s backing is vital for stability, which is necessary for assembling a winning team. He came to the conclusion that Paris may emerge as one of the competition’s favorites.
