A post-match VNR with Perth Scorchers Nick Hobson will be available via this link.
There were several talking points to come out of the impressive performance.
1. Hobson in fine Nick
Called upon towards the end of the first innings, Nick Hobson lit the crowd up with trademark power. The dynamic left-hander blasted an unbeaten 47 from 16 deliveries, taking 24 runs from the final over alone to boost the hosts’ total to 6-165 and earn Player of the Match honours.
2. Fielding masterclass
Perth’s fielding prowess swung the contest in their favour. Ashton Agar launched towards his right then executed an outstanding direct hit to remove Jimmy Peirson, shortly before Finn Allen ran out Nathan McSweeney at the non-strikers’ end. These moments, coupled with brilliant intensity and well-executed bowling plans, were the cornerstones of the Scorchers’ defence.
3. Behrendorff joins the 100 club
Jason Behrendorff became just the third Perth player to notch up 100 BBL games tonight, following in the footsteps of decorated teammates Ashton Turner and AJ Tye. And he did so in typical fashion, finishing with tidy figures of 2-32 from his four overs. Behrendorff now has the equal-most wickets in BBL|14 (seven) alongside Melbourne Renegades seamer Tom Rogers.
4. Christmas crowd packs the Furnace
Once again, Perth Scorchers fans showed why they are the best in the country, turning up in force to watch their side put on a show. No fewer than 41,921 supporters rolled through the gates for an excellent victory, and also enjoyed karaoke, pyrotechnics and even a marriage proposal. The Scorchers will hit the road next week with the goal of starting 2025 on the right note, when they meet Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve.
