(Motorsports news) Perez stated that he had difficulty seeing the white line that indicated the track’s boundary. It was relocated at Turns 12 and 13 prior to Saturday’s race in response to a potential safety issue with Pirelli’s tyres, albeit not all of the Mexican’s offenses occurred there.
After a chassis modification following his incident with Esteban Ocon and Nico Hulkenberg in Saturday’s race, the Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez began from the pitlane on hards. He moved up to third place before his first pit stop on lap 17 and was fighting his way back into the points when he incurred his first five-second penalty, which he had to accept at his next pit stop.
Perez was eventually assessed another penalty, which he accepted at his final stop. A third was later added to his race time, moving him from ninth to tenth place in the final standings. Perez said he made every effort to avoid penalties, but accepted he could have done better.
“It was, for me, impossible to see,” he told. “I was taking such a large margin and sacrificing so much lap time for it, but I still got more. It was difficult for me to judge, but there were drivers who could, so I don’t think I did a good enough job in that regard.”
“However, I believe what we ended up doing with the track limits was a joke.” First and foremost, I believe it is quite unfortunate that we have resorted to a last-minute approach to police it. Then start handing out fines.”
“It was very frustrating, as you can imagine,” he added. It had been a hard afternoon, and I was sorry that I had let my team down. “With the incident yesterday, it was a very bad weekend overall, which made it even worse today. Plenty of things to look at, and make sure we put everything in place for the coming races.”
