At the top level of football, midfielder Pedri is currently having the best season of his career.
The 22-year-old Spanish international is thriving this season with significant performances after overcoming prior injury and fitness issues. He has played in 35 games so far, scoring five goals and dishing out six assists.
Pedri has been used in a double pivot position in midfield under head coach Hansi Flick’s direction, which not only gives him stability but also shows how much Flick believes in his skills.
In a recent interview, Pedri, who recently extended his contract with the squad until 2030, talked about his outstanding play and the chemistry of the team as a whole.
Because I am always involved in the play, the ball flows past me, and I feel more comfortable here, I truly enjoy this position. Regarding his new position on the field, Pedri added, “I’ve also learned to improve my defensive positioning.”
Despite his youth, Pedri is one of Barcelona’s captains this season, boldly assuming the leadership roles that Flick has given him. I am in a position to lead because of my experience, and there are a lot of young guys. I fully embrace this role and want to assist Barça win titles,” he said resolutely.
Pedri’s improved fitness and performances this season can be attributed in large part to the new coaching staff’s training methodology. “This does not imply that previous methods were ineffective, but this current style aligns better with my needs, enabling me to perform at my best,” he said.
Pedri described Flick’s expectations as follows: “The focus is on maintaining composure, keeping possession, and creating opportunities from that platform.”
“We often laugh and joke around, especially with the many players under 20,” the Barcelona captain added, providing an insight into the locker room atmosphere and showcasing the team’s friendship. Our on-field results are a direct result of the solid bonds we develop off the field.
Star winger Raphinha, who is enjoying an incredible season under Flick’s tutelage, was also commended by him.
