As the IPL 2025 gears up to resume on May 17th, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are awaiting confirmation on the return of key overseas players Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis.
The franchise has received positive news from three of their international contingent – Xavier Bartlett, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mitchell Owen – who have committed to returning for the remainder of the tournament.
However, the availability of Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Josh Inglis, and Aaron Hardie remains uncertain. Notably, both Jansen and Inglis have been selected in the Test squads for South Africa and Australia, respectively, for the World Test Championship (WTC) final scheduled to begin at Lord’s on June 11th. This potential conflict with international duties could impact their participation in the IPL.
Despite the overseas players returning home during the brief suspension, a significant portion of PBKS’s overseas coaching staff, including head coach Ricky Ponting and assistant coaches Brad Haddin and James Hopes, remained in India. The franchise has instructed its players and support staff to reconvene within the next two days.
PBKS is set to recommence their training in Jaipur on Thursday. Jaipur will serve as their new home base for the remaining league matches against Rajasthan Royals (May 18th), Delhi Capitals (May 24th), and Mumbai Indians (May 26th).
Currently positioned third on the IPL points table with 15 points after 11 games, PBKS was in the middle of their twelfth league match against Delhi Capitals on May 8th in Dharamsala when escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan led to the game’s abandonment.
Following a one-week suspension that began on May 9th, the announcement of a ceasefire between the two nations on May 10th cleared the path for the IPL’s resumption. The revised schedule, released on Monday, includes 13 remaining league matches and the four playoff fixtures. The league games will be hosted across six cities – Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The venues for the playoffs, scheduled for Qualifier 1 on May 29th, the Eliminator on May 30th, Qualifier 2 on June 1st, and the final on June 3rd, are yet to be announced.
