The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI), originally scheduled for May 11 in Dharamsala, has been relocated to Ahmedabad due to escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border.
This fixture was set to be PBKS’ final home game at their secondary venue in Dharamsala. The team had kicked off their stint there with a convincing win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last Sunday and are due to face Delhi Capitals (DC) at the same venue later today in a key encounter.
Mumbai Indians were initially set to arrive in Dharamsala today, but their travel plans were put on hold pending the IPL’s discussions around the venue change.
Following those deliberations, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) agreed to host the rescheduled match. GCA secretary Anil Patel confirmed that MI were expected to land in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening.
Currently, PBKS sit third on the points table with 15 points from 11 matches, while MI are just behind them in fourth with 14 points from 12 games. Punjab can secure qualification — and even a top-two finish — if they win all three of their remaining matches. However, they could still qualify with 15 points if other results go in their favor.
The stakes are high, especially considering that two of PBKS’ last three games are against teams in the top five.
For MI, the change in venue might not be ideal. They have a poor track record in Ahmedabad, having played six matches there and lost five — including their last five consecutively.
