Pakistan Women's Cricket Team Makes History with T20I Series Win

(Cricket News) The Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team defeated New Zealand by an amazing 10-run margin in the second Twenty20 International of their series on Tuesday in Dunedin, ending a five-year drought and making history.

It was the first time Pakistan had ever won a Twenty20 international series against the White Ferns, and it was also their first series win away from home since they defeated Bangladesh in October 2018. The much-improved Pakistan team amassed a competitive total of 137/6 from their 20 overs and bowled well to restrict the hosts and register a series-clinching victory.

It was also a well-deserved victory, as the visitors received strong contributions with the bat from Muneeba Ali (35), Aliya Riaz (32*), and former captain Bismah Maroof (21), as they amassed a respectable total after being put into bat by the Kiwis.

After removing Bernadine Bezuidenhout (2) and Amelia Kerr (2) to help reduce New Zealand to 9/2 in reply, left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal made it impossible for the hosts to rally as Pakistan easily glided home.

The third and final game of the series will take place in Queenstown on Saturday. Since the Pakistan Cricket Board awarded domestic contracts of 11 months to 74 young women cricketers—59 of whom are in the emerging and U19 categories and 14 of whom have already played for the Pakistan women’s team at the senior level—things have begun to improve.

Fatima Sana (3/22) was the best bowler for Pakistan, and Hannah Rowe top-scored for the home team with a well-compiled 33.

With an exciting new women’s cricket season scheduled to begin on September 1, this significant development has given women players a great deal more confidence. The domestic contracts were awarded to players who have proven themselves on a variety of cricketing stages, such as domestic cricket tournaments, emerging tournaments, U19 domestic tournaments, and the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup.
