With outstanding performances and a culture shift that appears to have had a very beneficial effect on the entire team, Hansi Flick’s presence has undoubtedly changed Barcelona both on and off the field.
Additionally, one of his players has provided insight on the German’s treatment of his soldiers. In an interview this week, midfielder Pablo Torre shared how Flick handles his relationship with each player and shared a fascinating story about how much the coach considers each player’s unique circumstances.
From the outside, he appears to be a very serious and intimidating man, but he is actually quite friendly with both players and those who play less. In the dressing room, we have a very respectful and healthy connection. The pitch is reflecting that. We feel fantastic.
“I have a great relationship with him. He wants us all to remain attentive. He came up to me the other day following the Champions League game versus Red Star. I had planned to play, but we had to substitute someone else since Cuba (Cubarsí) sustained a facial injury. I couldn’t play due of that situation, even though the physical trainer had just told me that I would come on in two minutes. I informed Flick that I was pleased with him, that the team came first, and that he was powerless to change anything.”
Hansi’s concern for all of his players, including those who don’t play much, is demonstrated by the fact that Flick felt compelled to personally apologize to Torre for not being able to utilize him in the match against Red Star despite having to substitute him due to injury.
It’s a strategy that unites the team and gives everyone a sense of importance, which undoubtedly contributes to the squad’s current sense of unity.
