(Tennis news) On Sunday night, Nick Kyrgios announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon 2023 due to a ruptured ligament in his wrist.
“I’m really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year. I tried my hardest to be ready after my surgery and to be able to step on the Wimbledon courts again,” Nick wrote on Instagram. “During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during the week of Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist. I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.”
Nick Kyrgios, who is an Australian, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in January, which prevented him from participating in the first few games of the season. Last month, Kyrgios made his comeback in Stuttgart, where he was defeated by Wu Yibing in the opening round.
At The Championships, where Kyrgios made his first major final last year, he also scored some of his career’s biggest victories, including a shock victory against Rafael Nadal on the way to the 2014 quarterfinals.
“I’ll be back,” Kyrgios wrote. “And as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans.”
