In a Premier League match that is expected to be emotionally heated, Luton Town will host Newcastle United at Kenilworth Road on Saturday

(Football news) Due to Lockyer’s frightening cardiac arrest, the Hatters’ matchup with Bournemouth was canceled last week, while the Magpies enter the game having lost to Chelsea in the EFL Cup.

The Vitality Stadium stood as one last Saturday, seven months after Hatters skipper Lockyer’s unsettling fall on the South Coast at Wembley during the Championship playoffs. Luton manager Rob Edwards found it difficult to contain his tears.

Before both teams emerged from the dressing rooms to cheers from the Vitality crowd, Lockyer was verified to be awake and responsive thanks to the quick response of the medical staff. The Premier League has now announced that the entire replay of the postponed match will go place.

Prior to the alarming event involving Lockyer, who was subsequently released from the hospital, Luton had taken the lead against Bournemouth after just three minutes, thanks to the impressive Elijah Adebayo. However, Dominic Solanke scored for the Cherries in the second half.

Now that they have a match against their fellow relegation contenders coming up, Luton is still far from safe in 18th place and will stay in the drop zone no matter what happens this weekend. Nottingham Forest has a five-point advantage, and because last weekend’s game was called off, their record still stands at three straight losses going into Saturday.

No team has won at Kenilworth Road by at least two goals in the 2023–24 Premier League, despite the fact that Edwards’s team performed admirably in their last two home losses, only falling to Arsenal in injury time and giving Manchester City a fright.

While Newcastle’s EFL Cup quarterfinal matchup with Chelsea began with the Magpies enjoying a defensive masterclass as Callum Wilson tore through the confused Blues defense to open the score, the Magpies were left to lament what might have been after two costly mistakes from a typically dependable stalwart.
