Neeraj Chopra bags the first ever gold medal for India in athletics, India finishes with a record medal tally

(Athletics news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Neeraj Chopra bagged a historic gold medal with a 87.58m in the Men’s Javelin Throw in Tokyo Olympics. With this astonishing feat, he has become the first athlete from India to secure a medal in Track and Field events. Jakub Vadlejch from Czech Republic won the silver medal with a throw of 86.67m coming off his fifth attempt and Vítězslav Veselý also from Czech Republic took the bronze with a throw of 85.44m in his third attempt.

Neeraj started off with a mighty 87.03m that secured him a lead from the rest of the pack, he went even further in his next attempt with a throw of 87.58m and in his third attempt he threw a 76.09m. His second throw of 87.58m was enough to top the finals as he had a comfortable lead over the others. The name will be forever remembered as many athletes have come close in the finals like PT Usha and Milkha Singh but nobody has dominated like this in an event, that too in an Olympic Final. This was a perfect finish to the best ever Olympics performance this country has ever witnessed.
