NBA: Jazz stun the Warriors while Celtics made it 21 win this season

(Basketball news) The Utah Jazz stunned the Golden State Warriors at home as they won 124-123. For the Jazz, Fontecchio finished with a career-high 18 points as the rookie from Italy who will be 27 made four 3-pointers while Jordan Clarkson led the scoring with 22 points. For the Warriors, Jordan Poole tied a season high with 36 points for Golden State and Jonathan Kuminga had a season-high 24 while Klay Thompson had 22 points. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins sat out for Golden State, while Utah was missing Lauri Markkanen and Mike Conley. Curry skipped the game because of soreness in his left ankle, Green has tightness in his left hip and Andrew Wiggins has a strained right adductor. With this result the Jazz improved their record to 15-12.

”I couldn’t imagine anything like that. Just an amazing feeling, really happy and excited the way we got there,” said Fontecchio, who may have only been on the court because Collin Sexton left the game with a sore hamstring.

”We were supposed to win that game. Just things that happen,” Kuminga said. ”The NBA is crazy because out of 82 games, there’s always going to be a game just like that that you’re just going to ask yourself, `What happened?”’

”You got to close it. You got to be rock solid with the ball. You got to be smart defensively. We were neither of those things the last 13 seconds,” Golden State coach Steve Kerr said.

The Boston Celtics made it 8 wins out of the last 9 matches as they hammered past the Phoenix Suns 125-98. For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown each scored 25 points, Malcolm Brogdon added 16 off the bench. For the Suns, Josh Okogie led the Suns with a career-high 28 points off the bench, while Booker added 17. Paul finished with four points, four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes. Boston won for the eighth time in nine games, improving its NBA-best record to 21-5. The Suns came into the game with the best record in a crowded Western Conference race as they lost for the third time in four games.

”You enjoy the moment, but you’ve got to understand why you did it,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. ”Then you’ve got to know that it’s a long year. This could happen to us. It might not, but we’re going to go through some type of obstacles throughout the year.”

”Phoenix is a great team and I thought the way we played showed the respect we had for them,” Mazzulla said.

”It feels like that game should count as two losses, but the good thing is it is still only one,” Booker said.
