Napoli face a tough task against Fiorentina and AC Milan face Torino

(Football news) Napoli in pursuit of their first Scudetto since 1990 will face their toughest task when they take on Fiorentina on Sunday. Three wins on the spin have helped Luciano Spalletti's side have pulled within a point of the Serie A summit. Napoli previously beat both Verona and Udinese 2-1, as they picked up more points in Serie A during the second half of the season (27, with eight wins, three draws and just that one defeat) than any other team. Their success at Atalanta meant that they have lost only one league match outside of Naples this season and – winning 11 times in the process and are still three points clear of third-placed Inter but they do have a match in hand.

At home, Napoli have won only three of their last eight league games and have suffered four of their five Serie A defeats this season at the Maradona Stadium. They have only the seventh-best home record in the league, 29 points from 15 games. Fiorentina have secured 14 points from their last seven matches and currently sit 8th in the Serie A standings, they are also 4 points off AS Roma in 5th place but have a game in hand. Fiorentina have conceded in each of their last 11 away games and should they fail to keep a clean sheet against Napoli, they will reach the dreadful record of conceding in 12 games for the first time since 2010.

AC Milan failed to take advantage of extending their four point lead over their title rivals as they drew to Bologna, now they face a very crucial encounter with Torino. Milan have found the back of the net just four times in their six recent league and cup matches and are running out of firepower at the top end of the field when they need it most with just seven games remaining in the Serie A. The once most dominant club in Italy, have not been crowned Italian champions since 2011 but finished runners-up to Inter last season, and have the fate of the Scudetto in their own hands, so getting victories against mid table clubs has become a necessity for Milan. Last time Milan met Torino, they thrashed them 7-0.

Inter Milan take on Hellas Verona and will be entering the contest as heavy favourites after their controversial victory over Juventus. The champions have 11 fewer points than from their first 30 games they played in Serie A last season, but they still remain in the mix for the Scudetto this season as they are just four behind city rivals Milan, with an extra fixture to play. The visit of Verona should hold few fears as they won 3-1 in the reverse fixture at the Stadio Bentegodi earlier this season. Hellas Verona are the team Inter have faced the most without ever tasting defeat since the turn of the century. They are unbeaten against them in 21 games, with 17 wins and four draws; the last time they lost against the Scaligeri came over 30 years ago: back in February 1992.
